We are off to Cancun!

Hey everyone...my family and I am headed out in just a few short hours to sunny Cancun! I am so excited to have a little break with the family. Sand, surf, and sun headed our way.

Sneak Peek: "Baby C" {Columbus Newborn Photographer}

I have been on quite a newborn streak lately! Meet 9 day old "Baby C"...one of the most alert newborn babies I have had in a long time! I am telling you, I pulled out all my tricks to get him to sleep and it was still quite a challenge. He just wanted to stay awake and play with us! Big brother "J" is 18 months and is still trying to decide if he is okay with this new creature coming to live with them and share his things. :-)

Sneak Peek: "Baby J" {Columbus Newborn Photographer}

I met with such a beautiful family this afternoon for "Baby J"'s newborn session. We were scheduled to shoot her session early last week but as babies often do, she decided to be on her own schedule and not come as planned. "J" was 11 days old for our session and couldn't have behaved any better. She let me mold her into positions and do just about anything with her. Her Grandma and Grandpa came along for the session as well. We all had a great time just chatting away! Enjoy your sneak peeks, guys!

Sneak Peek: "Baby H" {BABY STEPS STUDIOS- Columbus Baby Photographer}

"Baby H" and his mom came into the studio last week for the second session in his Milestones package. I have to say, he has got to be one of the cutest little guys! He has those adorable little chubby cheeks that just make you want to squeeze them. "H" has just started crawling so we had a little bit of a challenge to keep him in one place but I am never one to turn down a challenge! I can't wait to see him in another few months.

I absolutely LOVE getting phone calls (and emails) from previous clients telling me they are having another baby! It is so much fun to be able to go back and re-connect with the family, see the other children (many of whom I meet as newborns and then don't see for awhile), and welcome a new baby to the world! The "R" family was now exception! Nine day old "Baby G" was such a sweetheart! He was so happy to just cuddle up in my arms...ah, how I love that!! Valentine's Day Cards available!

Here are this year's designs for Valentine's Day cards. These are bookmark size (2"x7") which makes them perfect for passing out at school! Who doesn't want to pass out cards with their photos on them? (My kid can't wait to pass his out!) Cards are available to any of my previous clients from this year. Just send me an email and we can re-upload your gallery if needed, free of charge. In order to insure quick turn-around time, designs are not customizable and orders must be placed prior to this Thursday, Jan. 29th. Cards are $25 per pack of 25.

Sneak Peek: Valentine's Day Mini-Sessions Day 2

What another fun day is the studio! We had a couple last minute cancelations due to sick kiddos so we may be doing a re-shoot of those in the next couple days...we will see if we have time! Saturday was full of old faces and a few new ones as well. :-) I was excited to have some girls in this group so that I could break out the pink paper. These girls rocked it out! (And the boys did a fabulous job, too!) I will be posting Valentine's Day cards in the next post.

Questions Answered

What is go your fave lens?

My go to lens is my 16-85mm. I would say it is one my camera 90% of the time. It allows enough flexibility in shots while still keeping me close enough to my clients to interact with them the way I like to. I love using my 85mm 1.8 when I have enough space and an old enough client to allow me to move around constantly and still get all those perfect shots.

Boxers or Briefs?

Well...being a woman, I prefer boyshorts for myself. And on my hubby...I like boxer-briefs. Yes, I am an indecisive person. :-)

RAW or JPEG?

RAW all the time. I do all of my editing in Lightroom with presets that I have developed over time to fit my shooting style. Shooting in RAW just allows so much more flexibility in post-processing.

Here is one question that is two part...where is your all time favorite spot to take photos and where would you love to try out?

Hmm...that one is tough! I would say my favorite place to shoot is somewhere urban. I LOVE shooting in the Short North and in the arena district. Any place with lots of texture and gritty feeling to it makes me happy.

I would LOVE to shoot on the beach. I long of having a winter home somewhere where I can shoot with the sand in my toes, the waves crashing at my feet...with a long weathered pier...at sunset. Ah...that would be nice!

Why won't you shoot a wedding?

I LOVE weddings...honestly, I probably love weddings more than anyone else. There is just something about witnessing that moment when two people pledge to spend the rest of their lives together that holds a special place in my heart.

Being a wedding photographer is a full time gig and I just don't want to give up all my time for weddings. I truly love photographing my clients. I love watching a child grow up before my eyes and witnessing families grow over the years. I love that everyday is a new adventure in my career and every client is a new experience.

What inspired you to become a photographer?

Photography has always been my passion. Even as a small child, I was obsessed with taking photos. I tortured my little sister by making her sit for photo shoots at my parents' lake house. Hours after hours were spent taking the perfect shots with my hot pink Ansco Pix point and shoot camera. I will never forget the excitement of picking up that roll of film a week later to view my work. I had my camera with me all the time and made sure to document everything!

Do you have a favorite photograph?

I have several from client sessions that i just love! I always fall in love with shots from my newborn sessions simply because they are so very sweet. I am currently loving the photo of my son, Kyan, that I took last spring. He wanted to play in the water, so we set up a water basin and he just splashed away. He looked up at me with his big blue eyes and tons of attitude and it was perfect. I have the photo as the background on my Twitter.

As far as a non-Amy Clark original...I have this old black and white photo of my Grandma Betty from when she was probably 20 that I just love. She has amazing fashion and looks gorgeous in the photo. I would love to someday get it reprinted as an enlargement for my living room.

What one thing are you exceptionally good at?

Making kids feel comfortable. I just LOVE kids and somehow have an amazing ability to convince even the most difficult client into playing along. I even had a client once ask me if I could come to their house each night at 3 AM to put the baby back to sleep. :-)

Sneak Peek: "Mommy-To-Be B" {Columbus Maternity Photographer}

I had the privilege of photographing my good friend (and fellow photog) "B" this morning. She and her family drove the hour and a half (with snow!) to get to the studio today. We had so much fun brainstorming ideas and trying out new things. "B" had this amazing henna art created on her tummy that just made this session even more unique. Such a great idea! We played around with fun textures, yummy lighting, and creative poses. Seriously...she is gorgeous and was a blast to shoot with! Enjoy your sneak peeks, "B"!

2010...A new year, new offerings!

Well...it's a little late, but Happy New Year, everyone! This past year has been a whirlwind of fun and I can't wait to see what the next 12 months will bring! Sneak Peek: "Little E" {Columbus Baby Photography}

I met this little cutie back during the summer when we got together to shoot "Little E"'s 6 month session. It always amazes me how much these little ones grow up in 6 short months. "E" was so excited to explore the studio and play with just about anything she could get her hands on. Christmas beads, a hanger, and the weights for my backdrops seemed to be the favorites. :-) I just love how no matter how many new, fun toys are around...kids always want to play with random other stuff! We had a bit of a challenge to keep "E" in one spot but we did laugh the whole time! Enjoy!
