It's time for a break!

I will be taking a much needed break for the next two weeks. I will be doing a lot of traveling to spend the holiday with both Alex's family and my family before coming back here for Christmas morning. We will then be heading to Florida for a family vacation to Disney World for a week. We will be partying with all the crazies on New Year's Eve, so if you happen to be watching the Disney Channel that night...keep an eye out for us! :-)

I will be back in town and back to work on January 6th. If you need anything while I am gone, please contact Cindy via email. She will be able to answer most questions. I will not be answering business calls while I am away but I will be checking in with Cindy on occasion. I will also try to check my email when I can but please be patient with me as I won't have access to it often.

If you are waiting on orders that have already been processed or are in the process of placing orders, please keep in mind there will be a delay. We will get the orders ready for pick up as soon as we resume business after the new year.

Cindy's email: cindy@babystepsstudios.com

Thanks!
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Sneak Peek: "Baby C"

Meet adorable little "Baby C". "Baby C" was only 13 days old for our session. (He shares a birthday with my oldest son!) Can you believe all the hair on this little guy? He just looks like such a little man already. "Baby C"'s mom and I know each other through a mutual friend so we just hung out and chatted while I shot these photos of him. He did such a great job with only a few minor upsets throughout the whole session. They have such a beautiful house (mom's an interior designer so what can you expect?) that will be so fun to shoot in when "Baby C" is able to sit up and move around!

I am so EXCITED!!!

I just found out today that I have been selected to be the sole 2008 Cover Photographer for Columbus Parent Magazine (a publication of the Columbus Dispatch)! I received a call a few weeks ago saying I was being considered as a possible candidate and was asked to submit some photos. I never really thought anything about actually being selected for the position until today when I found out that I was chosen!

This means that every issue of the Columbus Parent Magazine that goes out in 2008 will have one of my photographs as the cover art! I am so excited that I can't even believe it. I have to get started right away so that they can get the January issue out in the next couple weeks!

As a side note, all of the covers will revolve around the theme of the issue, but I will be using my own models and locations which will probably mean some of my previous clients may be called upon to be cover models! I will let you know if and when I am considering using an image of your child as a cover submission. It will be totally up to you whether your child's photo is sent in as a possibility or not but how cool would that be?

Anyway...I am super excited and stunned at the same time! Okay, I gotta get back to work... :-)

Sneak Peek: "The E kids"

This session just reminded me of how much I LOVE working with older children! These kids did such a great job of interacting with me and totally working the camera. I can't believe how gorgeous all three of these kids are. Their father is an artist and had some amazing artwork hanging in the house that made for a great background for some closeups. Can you believe this boy is only 12 years old? He is going to break some hearts in a few years! The girls were all about posing for me in their favorite outfits...a ballerina and a cowgirl! So cute!

Sneak Peek: "Baby K"

Despite a late start with nasty rain and cloudy skies, this session turned out fabulous! "Baby K" is just such an adorable baby girl. She was perfect the whole session long which made my job super easy! This was the first session in the "Milestones" package, so I can assure you that you will be seeing more of her in the future. I can't believe how much she has grown up in just 3 short months since our newborn session!

Sneak Peek: "Baby D" and "Little D"

Check out these adorable little kiddos. I had a combination newborn session/holiday session with this family this weekend. I had done "Little D"'s one year photos this past summer and now he is a big brother. "Baby D" was such a perfect little angel for the whole session. . . even in her Christmas garb and tights! "Little D" was quite a handful but what can you expect from an 18 month old big brother?!?!

I won!

I am so excited! I always donate money to charities as often as I can but i always try to do a little more around the holidays. This year, I decided I would help out The Beverly Family Foundation for breast cancer research through the Think Pink Photography network that I belong to. Think Pink was running a contest for the highest donation and I guess that was mine because I won! I won a new camera bag from Pro Lens Wear which sells all these super high fashion looking bags! Now...how ever will I decide which one to get???

If you are looking to donate to a charity this season, check out Think Pink Photography for more information on how to help out. Every little bit can help!

Also, check out the amazing new bags from Pro Lens Wear.

introducing my new assistant:

Things have been getting so busy around here that I have decided it is time to hire an assistant. My dear friend, Cindy Badon, has applied for and accepted the position of my new assistant. Cindy has been a great friend of mine for the past several years. She has been one of my biggest “cheerleaders” to help me get this company up and off the ground. She lives in Worthington with her husband, Chris; their three children, Chandler (9), Kate (4), and Logan (1); and their family dog, Sparky. Cindy will be taking care of preparing invoices, packaging orders, booking sessions, and general bookkeeping.

All orders placed from here on out should be sent to orders@babystepsstudios.com .
If you need to contact Cindy, you can email her at cindy@babystepsstudios.com .

charity news:

I have been trying my best to reach out and help those in need. This month I donated several prints to the CafeMom Photo Gallery Charity Event with the proceeds going to breast cancer research.

I have finally been accepted into the American Child Photographers Charity Guild. This organizations pairs families of premature babies, terminally ill children, and NICU patients with area photographers willing to donate their time and talent to give these families a gift they can cherish for a lifetime. Many of these children don’t survive long so it is important to help them to remember these babies as a part of their family. You can visit the ACPCG website at www.acpcg.org for more information.

I have also joined with a new organization called Think Pink Photography. Think Pink Photography was founded in October 2007 to support individuals and their families who have been touched by breast cancer. We are a non-profit organization that serves two main purposes - celebrating life and supporting the cause. Through our photography network, we are helping breast cancer survivors and their supporters to celebrate life with charitable photography sessions. Any individual that has been diagnosed with breast cancer or completed treatment within the past 12 months qualifies for a Think Pink session. Sessions are available to document the fight before or during treatment or to celebrate the victory when treatment is completed. Clients will receive a complimentary session, (20) small prints, and a discount off additional print orders. You can visit the Think Pink Photography website at www.thinkpinkphotography.org for more information.

new and noteworthy:

Congrats to Jamie and Trent who welcomed baby Lucy this month and Veronica and Andy who welcomed baby Drue last month!

Happy birthday goes out to Kyan and Logan who both turned 1, and Chasen and Katie who both turned 4 this month.

don’t forget:

* I am now booking for the months of January and February. December sessions will be limited to maternity and newborn sessions only.

* Maternity photos are best done between 32 and 36 weeks. Schedule your session early to make sure we can fit you in before the baby arrives.

Sneak Peek: "Baby E"

I am finally posting the sneak peeks from this session on Monday with "Baby E". She was such a strong little girl...even at 11 months. She knows what she wants and what she doesn't want, that's for sure! :-) "Baby E"'s mom is a librarian and had a ton of cute ideas of photos with all of their books. It really was a lot of fun watching "Baby E" attack the stacks of books over and over again...

Sneak Peak: "The H Family"

You may recognize this little girl from a few weeks back. I had the opportunity to photograph FOUR generations in this session. This family was such a riot! It was hard to believe there were four generations present. They were cracking jokes and telling crazy stories the whole time. Here are some of the shots from our session of seven month old "Baby A" with her father, her grandmother, and her great-grandfather.

It will be like losing a leg...

In an effort to save my own sanity and keep my family from revolting, I will be detaching my computer from my hip over the Thanksgiving weekend. I will continue to check email and such, but I will not be working on proofing or processing orders.

If you have a session in the proofing stages and would like your order to be processed prior to Thanksgiving, please get your order in now. All orders placed and paid for (via Paypal) by noon on Wednesday will be processed and sent to the lab Wednesday evening. All orders placed or paid for after noon on Wednesday will not be processed and sent out until Monday or Tuesday of next week. Please keep in mind that orders are averaging 1-2 weeks for processing after payment has been received. Please contact me if you have any questions. There will be no exceptions to the Wednesday 12:00 PM deadline.

Sneak Peak: "Little S"

Look out world..."Little S" is making his modeling debut! This little guy has got to be one of the cutest kids out there. He was a little shy at first and wasn't too keen on having his pictures taken but we had a lot of fun playing around anyway. He even cried when it was time for me to leave! Anyway...I am loving the results of this session, so check them out. You may be seeing more of him in the future! :-)
