what's new? *August 2007 edition*

I’ve been very busy with several photo shoots this month. I feel like it was just the other day that I was begging for clients and now I am having a hard time keeping up with all the requests! I am currently interviewing several nannies so when I get that squared away, I will be able to start shooting a couple days during the week which will help out a lot! I’m not complaining though; this is a great problem to have!

my new project:

I love everything about photographing your children but this month I took a set in another direction to being my new project - Amy Clark Photography. I wanted a way to express myself creatively with a subject that was a little more...controlled...so I have begun working with models to do some fashion photography and editorial work. It is so different that what I am doing with your children, that it is a nice change of pace for me. You can check out some of my recent work from my “Trash the Dress” series on my blog at www.amyclarkphotography.blogspot.com. I will also be doing all my senior sessions and adult work through this division as well. Please contact me at aclarkphotography@gmail.com for more information about this new venture.

baby steps studios gives back:

Following in the footsteps of American Idol (yes, I do watch -and vote for- American Idol), I am launching a program to give back to those that may not be as privileged as I have been in my life. When you are down on your luck and low in funds, the last thing most people think to spend their hard-earned cash on is photography and because of this they are missing out on documenting these important times in their lives. I am here to try to change that. If you know of a needy family that is deserving of my services, send me an email with their story and why you think they deserve a photo session. The winning family will receive a free photo session with me and a $100 print credit to purchase prints from the session. The winning family’s story will be posted on the blog (with the names excluded if requested).

it’s your right...VOTE!

Okay, so it’s not as exciting as the Presidential Race ’08 but it’s still fun! Don’t forget to log on to the blog to vote for your favorite entry in the photo contests. The current contest is all about the boys and the heroes they want to be. The winning boy will get a free “heroes photo session” with me. You are only allowed to vote once, so be sure to make it count! Keep an eye on the blog for future contests...or better yet, just subscribe to the blog to have the updates delivered straight to your inbox.

did you notice anything different?

If you have ordered prints in the last couple of weeks, you may have noticed something a little different this time around. I have spend hours (yes hours!) revamping my packaging for print orders. I hope that the new look gives your prints the upscale feeling that I feel they deserve. In your package you will find personal referral cards as well. Give these cards out to friends and family to receive special deals. When your friend books a session and turns in your card, he/she will receive a free 8x10. When 5 of your friends turn in your referral cards, you will receive a free photo session! Don’t hesitate to let me know what you think about the new packaging. I love to get feedback from clients!

new and noteworthy:

Congrats to Tiffani and Victor who welcomed baby Wesley and Michelle and Dan who welcomed baby Kayla this month! I had such a great time photographing these moms while the were pregnant and now it’s such a pleasure to photograph these new babies as well!

Happy birthday goes out to Masey who turned 9 and Liam who turned 2 this month.

A special congrats goes out to the winner of my first ever photo contest...Eryn won the Rock n Roll Princess contest with over 61% of the overall votes! Eryn and I will be shooting her free Rock n Roll Princess session in the next couple weeks. Keep an eye on the blog to catch some sneak peaks!

don’t forget:

• Holiday sessions must be completed by November 21st to insure holiday delivery. Please don’t hesitate to book your session early. The month of September is almost completely booked and sessions in October are filling up quickly.

* Maternity photos are best done between 32 and 36 weeks. Schedule your session early to make sure we can fit you in before the baby arrives.

* Newborn sessions are done within the first 10-14 days after the birth. Please be sure to call me as soon as the baby arrives to schedule your session.

Sneak Peak: "Baby K"

Introducing...sweet "Baby K". This adorable little girl was only 7 days old at this session. We tried forever to get her to sleep but she just wasn't having that! This is the sweetest little family. I had the opportunity to photograph her mom a couple months ago. Those of you long time readers may remember her session- "Mommy-to-Be M". Welcome to the world, "Baby K"!

A couple new family photos!

I met up with a couple of other photographer friends of mine for a mini family photo shoot. I am so pleased with the results that they got...even with my crazy kids running everywhere!

Here are two from Courtney:

I love this one!

Don't we look so happy here?

And here are two from Carmen:

My kids ACTUALLY looking at the camera for once!

I love the serious look of this one! It's not your typical "family photo"!

Let's see your HEROES in action!!

It's time for a new contest and this time it's all about the boys! The theme for this contest is "Heroes". Every boy has his own idea of what a hero is whether it's a superhero, a firefighter, a pirate, his Daddy, etc.

Send in your photo of your little guy dressed as his favorite hero. The photos will be voted on my viewers of the blog and the winner will win a free "Heroes" photo session with me!

Submissions will be accepted through Sunday, August 26th. Please include his name, age, and "hero" with your photo.

(In order to keep the contest fair for everyone I am excluding previous winning families from consecutive contests. This will give everyone a chance to win. Thanks for your understanding!)

Here is a shot of my guy to get you started:

I've been so busy!

Sorry I haven't posted in the last couple days. I have been so busy with shoots and processing that I haven't really had much time for anything extra! Just a few notes of interest:

• My schedule for August is completely booked aside from the limited sessions in Indiana. September and October are quickly filling up so if you are interested in a session, please contact me soon! Keep in mind that all holiday sessions must take place prior to November 21st to insure holiday delivery.

• Voting for the Rock n Roll Princess Contest ends tomorrow morning, so be sure to get your votes in before then. Eryn is currently in the lead with Ellie and Mia in second and third.

• A new contest is in the works...think "Superheroes" and "Action Stars". More details to follow next week.

Indiana Sessions available!

I will be in Indiana for two weekends in a row attending my and my husband's high school reunions. (Has it really been 10 years!?!?! Man, I'm getting old!) I have some time available so I thought I would see if anyone was interested in booking a session.

I will be in Converse, Indiana the weekend of August 25th and I will be in Lafayette, Indiana the weekend of September 1st. Please contact me ASAP if you are interested in these weekends. I will only be doing a limited number of shoots, so it is first come, first served.

my new side project

I love photographing babies and children but I thought I would try my hand at some more high fashion shoots as well... so I have made a new blog to showcase all of these sessions as well. I am currently booking models who are portfolio building as well as seniors looking for that edgy, high fashion look. Check it out here. Thanks for looking!!

Welcome "Baby W"!

I had the privilege of photographing "Baby W" yesterday morning. I had such a good time with this little guy. He is so tiny!! (I can't believe that my baby was ever this small.) "Baby W" usually sleeps all morning but not this morning! He was wide awake for most of the shoot. Eventually after about an hour, we got him to settle down and go to sleep. Here are a few sneak peaks from the session. I know his parents are eagerly awaiting them!

I'm leavin' on a jet plane...

Okay, so I am really leavin' in a minivan but that just doesn't sound as catchy!

We are heading out for a nice family vacation tomorrow and frankly, I have so much packing to get done that I just don't have time to post the photos for the contest before I leave, so I am extending the deadline. I know, shame on me, but you try to pack a family of 4 while your 8 month old thinks the clothes would be much better suited in his mouth than in a suitcase! Needless to say, the Rock n Roll Princess contest will remain open for entries through midnight on Monday, August 13th (which is about when I should be getting back home) so keep those cute photos coming!

I will be checking my email periodically while on vacation because, as my husband says, my computer has been surgically attached to my hip so feel free to email me if you have any questions or want to schedule a session!

Over and out! (Can you tell I am in a strange mood tonight?)

Baby Steps Studios Gives Back

Yes, I am following the ways of American Idol and giving back a little something. This month is all about those in need. I know when money gets tight, the last thing people want to spend their hard earned cash on is photography. Because of that, many families are missing out on capturing these moments in their children’s lives.

If you know a deserving family who could use a little pick-me-up in the way of photography, send me an email with their story. The winning family will receive a free photo session with me and a $100 print credit towards their prints. Submissions may be published with the names removed on the blog.

Sneak Peak: "Baby E"

I did manage to get one session in this weekend. I had such a great time with adorable little 6 month old "Baby E". She is one of those babies that just wants to go, go go! She didn't sit still for a minute! She was loving the camera for awhile...until it was dinner time! She was such a cutie that we even tried some Rock n Roll Princess shots with her. She really was a rock star!! Check out those big blue eyes!!

What a bad weekend for photos!

I ended up postponing the "Last Days of Summer" event this weekend since the weather was so nasty! Saturday it was so hot and sticky! At one point in the day, the display in my van said it was 107 degrees in the sun!! That is not a good situation for photos in the park. Sunday was raining and yucky all day, that didn't work out too well either.

I will be rescheduling the event in the next couple of weeks. Keep an eye on the blog for details!

I'm still looking for entries for the Rock n Roll Contest!

I've had some pretty cute little girls enter the contest so far, but there is still time to enter your little one! All girls are eligible to enter regardless of age. I was originally thinking it would be only 2-8 but after the session with "Miss M" the other day, I think it could easily work well with any age girl. I even had a 13 month old girl enter who I think would be adorable in the little tu-tu and leg warmers!

Don't forget to include her name and age with the photo. Simple snapshots are perfect, so start sending them in!

Do you have a firefighter at home?

I am looking for a child or two with a firefighter in the family. If you have a firefighter at home, have access to a uniform, and are interested in a free photo session, please let me know. The photos will be used in promotional materials for an upcoming special event. Please email me for more information. Thanks!

Sneak Peak: "Miss M"

I had such a fabulous session with "Miss M" today that I couldn't wait to post a couple sneak peaks! I still have a ton of her photos to go through but these stuck out as my favorites so I worked on those first.

Let me just tell you...this little girl has a great modeling career ahead of her if she wants it! It was a hot, humid, 97 degrees and sunny today! Her mom and I were miserable in the sweltering heat but she just wanted to keep going. We shot for 3 hours straight before we called it quits!

Here are a few of my favorites:

We decided to do some of the Rock n Roll Princess shots with her and I think they turned out amazingly well. I was worried because she is a little older than my age range (she turns 9 tomorrow) but now I am so glad we did them:

It's contest time!!

The first ever Baby Steps Studios Model Search is on! Okay, so that sounded a little more grandiose than I was intending but never the less it is true! I am looking for some cute little girls to model for a few portfolio shots for my new signature Rock n Roll Princess Series so I thought, why not offer a contest to find said models?

So how do I enter, you ask? Good question! Email a photo (any old snap shot of her looking cute will work!) of your little cutie to me (amy@babystepsstudios.com) with her name, age, and what makes her a great candidate for this contest. All of the contestants' photos will be uploaded to this blog to be voted on by the public. The little cutie with the most votes will win a FREE Rock n Roll Princess session ($100 value)!

Photos must be submitted between now and August 8th. Voting will begin shortly after. (Free sessions will take place in the Columbus, Ohio area only.)

Let's see those adorable little girls!

New Blog Subscription!

Hey all you Baby Steps Fans...look over there!--------------------->

How cool is that? Just enter your email in the little box to the right and you will be added to the list.

As a bonus...the first 10 people to add their email to the list will get a $10.00 print credit towards their next print order. Valid on new sessions only, please!
