Columbus Parent- October Issue & November Issue

I have had several people email me asking about the October and November issues of Columbus Parent Magazine. Yes, I did do the covers for both of those issues but with the busyness of the holiday rush, I completely forgot to upload them to the blog! I know...shame on me!

For the October cover, the editors wanted to highlight their "2008 Family Guide to Ohio Colleges" so we went with one of my high school seniors. Adam is a senior at Pickerington Central and did an amazing job at his senior session! This photo was just perfect for a magazine cover.

For the November Issue, they wanted to highlight a feature story on families with a fall feel to it and I just happened to capture this great photo of "Baby W" and his parents just days before the cover submission. Of course I had to use it!

The December Issue should be out in the next week or so, so check back soon!

Walt Disney World...here we come!!

As many of you already know, we are heading out of town on Sunday to celebrate the boys' 5th and 2nd birthdays with Mickey and Minnie at Disney World. The kids are both super excited for the trip (as are we of course!) so it should be a week to remember! I will of course post photos of our adventures when we return.

So...I am trying to get everything done before we head out of town. I have proofed all the photos from the mini-sessions and have sent the log-in info to everyone so check your inbox if you are expecting a gallery. If you have been notified that your order is in and ready, please remember that you must pick up your package before Sunday. All orders that have been placed prior to Friday (today) at midnight will be processed and sent to the lab for printing while I am gone. Orders will then be ready the following week.

I will have limited access to phone and email, so if you have any questions, need to book a session, or need to speak with me, please send me an email or leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I return. If you have an issue that needs immediate assistance, please explain your issue in your message and I will try to get back with you.

Thanks so much for a great holiday shooting season! I will talk to you all when I return from sunny Florida!

Sneak Peek: "Baby E"

It's time for another yummy newborn session! This little guy was just adorable! I did mom's maternity session back in September so I had been waiting for his arrival. We had to re-schedule this session due to my illness last week so "E" ended up being exactly 2 weeks old. Usually by 2 weeks the babies are a bit grumpy but this little guy did a great job! Dad just got a tattoo on his shoulder of "Baby E"'s hand print, so I just had to take a photo of it. How awesome is it to have a your baby's hand print on your body for life?!?!

Okay, now this photo needs some explanation. I have not had one newborn session where we get the baby naked and NOT have it pee or poop on someone. It's just a part of the job. I have not, however, managed to get a photo of the act as it happens. I have tried many times but it has just not happened....until now! Mom and Dad, you will be receiving a complimentary 4x6 print documenting this momentous event in your lives! I'm sure you will be proud to show it off to all your friends and family! :-)

Sneak Peek: "Mini-Sessions Part 2"

"The R Family":

This session was so much fun! I shot little "J"'s newborn session last January and it's amazing how much he has grown up since then. The wind started to pick up as soon as we started this session so we got the shots done as quickly as we could and then headed inside to Old Bag of Nails to warm up and chat for a bit. It worked out great because my next session was a good friend of "The R Family" so we all got to hang out and catch up before heading out to shoot the next session.

"The D Family":

I have photographed "Little C" a few times over the past year but this time was by far the most fun session! He was super smiley and happy to have his photo taken despite the chilly weather. Several times this little guy just went up to a rock and struck a pose with a big cheesy smile all on his own. It was so adorable!!

"The S Family":

This family was so much fun! You could just tell they really love playing around and joking with each other. All I had to do was stand back and shoot away! Poor "Little G" wasn't so sure she wanted to be in the photos but as soon as "Little J" started tickling her, we got a couple smiles in there.

I want to thank all of you for coming out and braving the chilly weather with me for these sessions. I had such a great time doing these mini-sessions so I will be offering them again several times a year. Keep an eye on the blog for future dates and deals. Be sure to sign up to receive blog updates straight to your email. Just enter your email in the "Subscribe" box to the right.

Sneak Peek: "Mini-Sessions Part 1"

I had such a good time doing the mini-sessions this past weekend. It was super chilly and windy but everyone seemed to have a great time. It's amazing how easy going most little kids are! I think it was the adults that were feeling the cold more than the kids. I had some much fun seeing all my former clients again. I will post a couple families now with more to come tomorrow...

"The L Family":

This is my second time shooting with "Little T" but the first time shooting the whole family. I couldn't believe how much "T" had grown in the past several months! "T" was getting a little cranky when I suggested that Dad put him up on his shoulders. As soon as he was up there, Dad started tickling him and what resulted is one of the cutest Father/Son photos that I have taken to date. I just love it!

"The Y Family":

This is the forth time I have shot with this family, so we are getting to know each other pretty well! The last time I saw "Baby G" he was only a few days old for his newborn shoot so it was so fun to see him again. "Little A" wasn't too excited about getting her photos taken in the chilly weather but once we put her coat on and started collecting fallen leaves, she was having a great time!

Sneak Peek: "Kaitlyn & Taylor- Class of 09" (part 2)

My senior reps, Kaitlyn and Taylor, wanted to get some fun fall shots to round out their senior portfolio so we met up this weekend for a quick (but chilly) fall senior session. They both did an amazing job, as always!

Check out their full sneak peeks on the senior blog at www.thenextstepstudios.blogspot.com.

Sneak Peek: "Miss K, Mister S, and Little R"

These little kids were just adorable!! We had to reschedule this session due to rain, so when I woke up on election day with a horrible cold, I knew I couldn't reschedule this session again. So, we met up in the Short North to do a quick session and I must say, I couldn't have asked for a better session to make me forget about being sick! These kids had me laughing the whole time.

"Miss K" is a little model in the making. Take note of this face because you just may see her on America's Next Top Model Cycle 19! She is just gorgeous! "Mister S" was quite the clown and had me laughing constantly. Getting him to give me a "normal" face was a challenge but one that I welcome! "Little R" is possibly the cutest 3 year old...ever! She reminds me of Olivia from the later seasons of The Cosby Show. You know...the cute little girl who had the biggest brown eyes and gave the cutest faces? That's "R"!

I honestly loved this session! It's sessions like this that remind me why I do what I do! Thanks for the good work, guys!

Just a reminder to everyone that the polls are open tonight until 7:30 so get out there and let your voice be heard! Alex and I went together this morning to cast our votes. It took us about a hour and forty-five minutes to get through the line so be sure to get there early!

Whether you are right or left, red or blue, black or white, male or female, young or old...it is your right and responsibility as an American to get out there and speak your mind. We fought long and hard for the right to vote, so don't let that go to waste. This election is one for the history books no matter who wins, so go out and be a part of it!

Holiday Ordering Deadlines and Mini-Session Updates

I have had a huge response to the Holiday Mini-Sessions taking place this Saturday. It should be a lot of fun and I can't wait to see all my former clients and meet a few new faces as well. There are a couple sessions still available but they won't last long so contact me ASAP if you want to snag those last openings! Also, just a quick reminder about holiday ordering...

Holiday Order Deadlines:

November 8th:

•Last day for sessions with guaranteed Holiday delivery

November 23rd:

•Last day to place Photo Book orders with guaranteed Holiday delivery

•Last day to place collage orders with guaranteed Holiday delivery

•Last day to place Holiday Card orders with guaranteed Holiday delivery

November 30th:

•Last day to place print orders with guaranteed Holiday delivery

When scheduling your session, please keep in mind that depending on your situation and the amount of time you take to chose your photos and place your order, there could be up to a 5 week turn-around time between when your session is shot and when you receive your order. Obviously 5 weeks in not the norm but it is possible. I will be working as hard as I can to get the sessions proofed and orders placed but custom photography takes a lot of time so please plan accordingly.

I shoot on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturdays only. There will be no exceptions made to this schedule so please schedule early. September and October are already filling up quickly and Saturday sessions are extremely limited due to my son's soccer schedule (I am and always will be a mom first and foremost!).

If you want to schedule a session, please email me at amy@babystepsstudios.com or give me a call at 614-863-2913 (please leave a message and I will call you back shortly). Thanks so much and I look forward to meeting a bunch of new people this year and seeing some familiar faces as well!
