I was thrilled when I got a phone call from this mom to say that she was having another baby and wanted to schedule a newborn session. I had photographed older brother M when he was just a tiny baby so I couldn't wait to meet the new little one. We had scheduled the session for right around the due date (as usual) but Miss A decided she wasn't quite ready to make her big debut...and chose to be over a week late! The wait was worth it though because she is just adorable! At 11 days old, she was a bit past my usual 5-9 days after birth time-frame which meant that she wasn't so excited to sleep for me...so we got some shots of those big eyes, too! So adorable!!

The weather was rainy (surprise, surprise) so we weren't able to shoot outdoors much but inside was perfect! These little girls were adorable and definitely gave us a run for the money! Just learning to move toddlers...TIMES 2!! They had all had the run of the studio, taking turns playing with the toys and posing for the camera. Grace and Annabelle were only here in town visiting family for the holidays so they will soon head back down to Houston, Texas. I hope to get the chance to photograph them again next year for their second birthday! :-)

Precious little Addelyn had the honor of being the FIRST session in the new studio at 1242 N High Street in the Short North...and it couldn't have been a better session! Okay so we had a few first day glitches (breakers popping, spotty heat, strobes mis-firing) btu we got it all sorted out and the session was AMAZING!! The light is perfect in the studio; there is tons of space; did I mention a Keurig to make your own coffee? Okay, enough about the studio...Addelyn did such an amazing job and slept through 95% of this session! Her mom had a ton of fun ideas and brought in some fabulous props for us to play with as well. Couldn't have been any better!

I LOVED this family! These kids were just adorable and so good together. Possibly my favorite moment during this session...Daddy had been away on business for a couple days and was meeting the family at the park. We went ahead and started the session with the kids while waiting for Daddy to arrive. After a few minutes of shooting with the kids, I notice Zack's eyes light up and he screamed "DADDY!!" and ran off to embrace him in a huge hug...PRICELESS!!

Meet 9 day old Jack. This little guy was at the end of my "newborn time-frame of 5-9 days", so I was looking forward to a wide awake baby but I was pleasantly surprised! Baby Jack was still all sleepy and curly just like I want my newborns to be. :-) One of the things that I love about on-location newborn sessions, is being able to include the new nursery in the photos! Most families put a lot of time and money into creating the nursery and it is great to document that as well.

As many of you may have heard, we are in the process of becoming an accredited Special Needs Photographer. Special needs kids have always held a special place in my heart and this is something that I am so excited to be doing.

As part of this process, we needed to develop a special needs portfolio and precious little Lauren was one of my first subjects for this new adventure. We had such a great time running around the park and shooting away! I couldn't stop laughing as she yelled "you're funny!" to my "no, you're funny!", over and over and over again! It never did get old. :-)

Meet 8 day old Baby Grayson... who really wanted nothing to do with sleep except for maybe the rare 30 sec here and there. As I always tell my new mommy and daddy clients, it only takes a second to get *that* shot, so trust me... we will get those amazing sleeping baby shots that you crave, even if baby doesn't really want to play along! Three week old Latham (love the creative name, by the way) came into the studio last week for his newborn session and being that he was already 3 weeks old, he decided that he needed to stay awake for THE ENTIRE SESSION... despite the shushing, soft music, heated space, fuzzy blankets, etc. (Yes, I realize there is a photo of him with his eyes closed, but I assure you, he was not 'sleeping'!) I must say though, if you are going to stay awake the whole time... I couldn't have asked for a more well behaved baby!

Details, details, details...one of my favorite things about photographing a birthday party. I am telling you, these moms think of everything! The theme for Asher's first birthday party was "Around the World" and they had it all...food from almost every country, animal print decorations, a homemade suitcase cake with a fondant gorilla and rice crispie globe, handmade party hats...you name it! I was asked to photograph little Asher's first birthday party in Cincinnati this past weekend. His mom is friends with one of my former clients who (sadly for me) moved to California and when she mentioned that they were coming back to Ohio to celebrate his birthday with family, she called me and it was all set up. We had a little downtime during the party and since the whole family was together, we decided to get some family shots...out in the 99 degree heat with a heat index of 110 degrees! Trust me, we were all melting...but these images were SOOO very worth it! (Party photos will follow soon)

Last year when I met this family, little Kaden was only a newborn...now he is a full fledged kid! This beautiful family lives in Armenia and comes back to visit family for a month during the summer which makes it the perfect time for a family photo session. I have to preface this post with a little weather update: on the morning of this session, it was storming...just just raining...but complete darkness, looks like the middle of the night, tons of thunder and lightning storming! The girls were both a little on edge and the lighting was less than desirable (considering there really was none!). We try to schedule newborn sessions to occur within the first 5-9 days (trust me a couple days can make a HUGE difference)...but sometimes that just isn't possible. This little guy came into the studio at 10 days old which means I had to work a little harder for these images! ;-) He did NOT want to sleep; he did NOT want to be put down; he did not want to stay curled up. He did, however, manage to pee and poop all over me (a sign of a good newborn shoot) and we got some amazing shots during the session! I hope to be able to watch little Anderson grow up over the next couple years. Congrats, guys!

Yet another one of my adorable little Milestones clients who have graduated from the program. Precious Zoe is just adorable...though not too smiley for us on this particular day. We tried all of our tricks, funny faces, weird sounds, mom and dad dancing like fools...and nothing! Nothing that is until we happened upon a neighbor dog in the lobby of their building which prompted the ONLY smiles we got the whole session. Regardless...she was adorable as usual!

Special Kids deserve special attention...

If you know me personally, you likely know that our older son, Chasen, was diagnosed with Autism (PPD-NOS), ADHD, and ODD earlier this year. Our younger son, Kyan, was diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech at age 2. Our neighbor's son (who is one of Kyan's friends) has Cerebral Palsy. I photographed the children at the Childhood League for their marketing materials a couple years ago. My point to all this...I just have an intense love for special needs kids and want to do something about it. I am beginning the process to become an accredited Special Needs photographer...and can't be more excited about it!

As I begin this process, I will need to add some more images to my portfolio of different kids with varying special needs. If you have a special kid and would like to take part in this...please let us know! We will be offering a complimentary photo session and an 8x10 print in exchange for a signed print release, letter or referral, and a mini bio about your child. Please contact us via email to me here or on facebook to be considered.

Remember this gorgeous pregnant mommy and son photo?

Welcome 5 day old Baby Veronica to the family! This sweet little baby girl did a perfect job during our session earlier this week. She slept peacefully for the beginning of the session, allowing me to get all those adorable sleepy newborn photos we all love. Eventually, she got a little cranky but calmed down in time for some cute family and sibling shots! Congrats to you guys, again!

The Oleski family contacted me for a family session and when she told me she had two boys and then their ages I though, "Oh boy...this one is going to be tough.". I could not have been more WRONG!! These little guys were simply adorable...followed direction...played along...and we just complete sweethearts! I told them at the end of their session that they won the award for the best session with sibling boys in months! The whole family was a dream to photograph and you can just see the love and happiness in their photos. I hope to see them again in the future to document more!

Here comes another one of those one year olds I was telling you about. I met Mr. Mason when he was just a newborn when they came into the studio with this fabulous wooden airplane:

So, of course we had to incorporate their new wooden airplane into his one year session as well. This little guy was all over the place and wanted nothing to do with sitting still...or standing still...or just being still at all! He gave me a run for my money but I was laughing the whole time. So much fun!

I just love when clients book the Little Miracles package. It means that I get to meet these amazing women in one of the most magical times in their lives...and then see them again to document the brand new babies. Seriously...could my job get any better? Meet Jessica...38 weeks along when she came into the studio for this session (and due to my surgery last week I am a bit behind) which means...there is probably a new baby by now! I can't wait to see the brand new little one soon!

Okay, so you know how I always say we prefer to shoot within 5-10 days after the baby is born to get those nice sleepy shots? Well I don't think we could have found a day that Miss Madison would have followed that sleepy rule. This one was wide awake and squirmy for 90% of our session! I tried all of my tricks and eventually DID get her to sleep after a lot of waiting and chatting with Mom and Dad (who both used to work with my hubby at A&F...although we didn't know that until the session). It was a super fun session and once she finally fell asleep, it was well worth the wait!

Wow how times flies! All my little Milestones clients are growing up so quickly! Little one year old Carter and his parents met me at Franklin Park for a super fun session...despite all the school trips visiting that day. I am still certain Carter had nightmares of little people in lime green shirts screaming! Carter was full of smiles and was loving all the attention...and all my funny faces and sounds. One year olds are just so much fun! Happy Birthday, little man!!

Session Faves: Karston. One Year Milestone.

All of my precious little Milestones kids are growing up this week! (I have another one year old graduate to photograph on Friday!) I met up with Karston and his parents at Franklin Park Conservatory but since it turned out to be one of the few decent days we have had in a while, we took advantage and shot the session outdoors around the park. It was so nice to be outside again! Karston did such a good job working the camera and even risked life and limb for a perfect shot (hope that bump is better, Karston, oops!). I am LOVING some of these family shots that we got in as well...they are such a happy family!

Oh my gosh...I can not say enough about how adorable this little guy is! He seriously did not stop smiling at the camera the entire session. Even when I was trying to get some of those family interaction shots, he kept looking right at me with that huge grin! So stinkin' cute!! LOVE HIM!!

A little while ago, we had a facebook contest for the Cutest Kid and Little miss Bailey won! We had such a fun time in the studio with this little one. She was on the move constantly and had a mind of her own which just made the session even more interesting! Mom brought along a heirloom dress that has been in the family for 94 years!! It was beautiful!! Enjoy!

This was Liam's final session in his Milestones Package and I must say, he certainly kept me on my toes! This little guy was running full speed ahead for the entire session! I can't believe that he is already a year old and will be graduating from the Milestones program. I always grow to love seeing these little kids and get a little sad when they pass that one year mark, which means I won't be seeing them as often. Thanks for being such a cutie, Liam!!
